Gateway DC Launches Cleanliness EffortGateway has launched a program aimed at keeping upper Georgia Avenue's sidewalks and curbs cleaner in 2008! The program will provide part-time sweepers to sweep the sidewalks and curbs along the upper Georgia Avenue corridor from Georgia/Fern to Georgia/Eastern Avenues on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Workers will also retrieve debris from treeboxes and planter sets along the DC Gateway Georgia corridor. Services do not include snow removal and the street sweepers do not work in inclement weather. The street sweepers will work two shifts on each of the above days: from 8a to 10a, and then from 1p to 3p. "This program is a good start to reducing some of the unsightly trash that can accumulate on a heavily trafficked corridor like Georgia Avenue", noted Gateway Executive Director Marc D. Loud. We wish to thank our sponsor, the D.C. Department of Housing and Community Development. For more information, contact Gateway program manager Joshua Lopez at gatewysafety@aol.com or 202-291-2400. Gateway-Georgia Avenue Revitalization Corporation is a community development corporation chartered in 1997 to spearhead revitalization along Georgia Avenue. Our service area extends between Walter Reed Hospital in the District of Columbia and the Discovery Communications facility in South Silver Spring, Maryland.
